I have the next 5 days off! WooHoo!! {I love my job} but I am SO excited about all the things I'm going to be able to get done! My to-do list is awfully long...I guess we'll see how far I get :)
Today I thought I'd introduce you to one of my favorite artist EVER. When I was getting my BFA I did some work with miniatures for a few semesters....I turned out to only be mediocre at it, mostly because my knowledge of how to set up lighting is pretty bad. When I say miniatures, I'm not talking about this new fad of "tilt shift" photography. I'm talking about actually setting up model scenes at say 1:48 scale, and photographing them with a giant macro lens. Pretty epic. If you know what you are doing. Perhaps I'll dig up a few of mine to show you, but for now I will show you someone who is the MASTER of miniature photography: Lori Nix. My hero. This is some of her work. To see more visit her web site.
I hope you enjoy her work as much as I do!
Now please don't compare my work to hers....mine is 100% amateur. And really not very good. But here is it anyway.
{{{This image is from a picture book I did called The Woeful Tale of Eva Milfred}}}
{{{This one is part of a much larger series titled "Why Boys Are Better Than Girls"...It was during this project I realized I didn't know enough about lighting to really accomplish what I wanted to. However, I didn't have enough time before graduation to take an extra class on lighting and finish the project.}}}

Oh wow, these are fantastic. I really love the tree in the first shot. And yours are so much fun too! I think I'd have fun with mini pictures, but I have little patience, so I would probably give up too soon. Have fun on your 5 days off, LUCKY!
ReplyDeleteYou could do it, it took surprisingly less patience than I thought it would. The only thing is how EXPENSIVE it got! Those little bastards are like $2 per figure. Thanks for the compliments on mine though. Sometimes I look at them and just beat myself up over it because I feel like I failed so miserably. :::Sigh::: Thats the way it goes though, you are your worst critic right?
ReplyDeleteI will totally enjoy my little vacation. I just hope it doesn't go by too fast! Greg has been home today and yesterday also because he's able to work from home every once in a while :) best ever. Thank God for laid back jobs!
xoxo
I would LOVE to see her work first hand! I did a post about her work too, lovely! http://whimsicalworldoflaurabird.blogspot.com/2010/12/artist-spotlight-lori-nix.html
