Interrogation::: Alexandra {Lola Nova}

Good Morning Friends!

I am SO excited about today's guest! Alexandra of Lola Nova was one of the very first bloggers I met when I started reading blogs in the not so distant past. She is an exquisite woman of rare taste, a gentle spirit, and a dear dear friend. Her example of motherhood, and wife-hood are inspiring to say the least. Her blog is charming and thoroughly captivating. I simply cannot say enough good things about her. I was hooked on her blog from the get go, but if you want to see the post that truly reeled me in you can find it here. What a loving Mommy she is. Enough from me! Ladies {and gentlemen} I give to you my sweet friend:

1. Tell us a little bit about you as a person.

   Let’s see, my name is Alexandra Smith, though some folks call me ‘Lola’. I’m a mom, wife, crafter, designer, musician, thrifty bohemian homemaker, blogger, gardener, gypsy dancing queen, and a bit of a daydreamer. I live in a little green cottage with The Engineer, Pony Girl, The Buddha Cat, 3 chickens, and an ever changing population of fish. We try to live simply and gently with the occasional wild rumpus thrown in for good measure. Oh, and I have a serious thing for stripy socks.

2. Tell us how/why you started Lola Nova.

   There isn’t really a short answer to this so excuse me while I ramble.
   Lola Nova’s inception really came about during the 2nd trimester of my pregnancy with my daughter. I rediscovered my love of sewing and designing and began a sort of manic period of making for my babe. Soon after, friends - and friends of friends began commissioning me to make things for them. I thought I might start a little business. About this time I started reading some blogs and felt a little spark to start my own. I have always made things and I have always been a wannabe writer so, it seemed a natural thing to do. Though I didn’t just want to write a craft blog; way too much pressure to constantly produce. Thus, “Lola Nova – Whatever Lola Wants” was born as a way to satisfy all of my creative callings. It has also become my shiny place, where I get to record and share all the crazy mixed-up goodness of my days. I am still so flabbergasted and grateful that others enjoy reading about me making my own weaving way through this life.

3. What networking do you do that you feel most helps your blogging business?

   First, I must tell you that I am absolute ‘pants’ at this networking business, no really. I don’t “Tweet” (unless you count my lame attempts at bird calls), I don’t have a Lola Nova Facebook page (maybe I should get one of those), and I hardly ever remember to hand out my business cards. So, I would have to say that the act of blogging itself is my most successful networking tool. Along with the connections I make in the blogging community, word of mouth continues to be the best business helper around.

4. What is your favorite or least favorite post on your blog?

   My favorite posts are usually the ones that are spontaneous but thoughtful, glimpses of life that might have gone unrecorded if not for the blog. MakingHistory is one of my favorites; it was a nice moment of articulating my connection to handmade. Another favorite is Tell me my names, a really sweet Mama moment that I cherish. My least favorite posts are quickly forgotten so, there you go.

5. What do you do when you're not blogging?

   I spend a lot of time with my family. My daughter and I have weekly dance parties, I garden, make stuff, think about stuff to make, write and play music, go exploring, read other blogs. Beyond that, it’s just a pretty boring list of domestic responsibilities and general mayhem with intermittent fort building.

6. {{{The funny question}}} What is something you would have a robot do if you had one?

   Chores. I know, not a very clever answer but the truth. It would give me so much more time to be creative. Or, the robot could start spontaneous neighborhood parades; who doesn’t love a parade?

See, see???? Isn't she amazing! Please pop over to her blog. She has so many amazing things to see.
Thank you so much Lola for doing me the honor of visiting us today. I really am so happy we could borrow some of your time.

Have a wonderful day everyone! Come back next week for a special visit from Tara from Easy Makes Me Happy!
xoxo
