New York City::: Round 2

Ok remember how I told you I was going to make you laugh? Here it comes.

Let me preface this whole story by explaining our Anniversary luck thus far:::
     • Wedding day - July 18 2010, hottest day of the year, outside wedding, no shade.
     • Honeymoon - Went to Big Sur, CA for a week, brought only summer clothes, it rained the whole time.
     • 1 Year Anniversary - Went to Santa Barbara, went to the beach the first day and got 2nd degree burns.

So you can imagine why we're kind of worried our anniversary has a complete disaster curse on it right? Well as you saw from the photos before NYC was bright and warm and sunny the whole day - till it was time for us to walk to dinner.

Then it started to rain. I mean a real New York thunderstorm. Now for those of you like me who grew up in California. This is like nothing you've ever experienced before. I saw that there was supposed to be rain in the weather forecast that morning so I had brought an umbrella. Which if we had been in California would have been sufficient. However what I didn't know is that when it rains over here an umbrella keeps your hair dry - maybe - and that's about it.

As I was saying, it started raining right around the time we needed to leave the MOMA and head 13 blocks down the street to the 4 star restaurant, Aureole, we had reservations at. So we changed into our fancy clothes at the museum and headed out the door. Within 2 seconds The Beard's shoes, socks and pants were soaked to the knees. I was wearing a dress so that didn't matter as much for me. Within 2 minutes The Beard's pants were soaked to the waist and the bottom of my {white} dress was soaked. By the time we finally got to the restaurant we were both soaked from our shoulders to our toes. And when I say "soaked" I really mean SOAKED. We were drenched to our skin.

We roll up to the hostess expecting her to turn us away and instead she says, "We don't mind if you don't mind!" WHAT!? So we went to the bathroom, rung out our clothes, patted them down with the restaurants ultra fancy hand towels and headed back out to the dining room. Yep, we ate at a 4 star restaurant in completely wet clothing. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But that didn't stop us from enjoying our unbelievably amazing dinner. Sorry these photos are terrible, we got to sit in a secluded back corner booth with pillows and the lighting was very dim.

Oh my wow. I want to eat it all over again. I can't even tell you what the names of most of these things are. It was SO good.

I've eaten 5 truly GREAT meals in my life. The first was a birthday gift from my Dad - a 5 course meal prepared for The Beard and I on our 20th birthdays by a world renowned chef who is a friend of his. The second was at a restaurant in Italy in 2008. The third was a place in La Jolla called Tulucks on the day we got engaged. The fourth was another birthday dinner by that same 5 star chef. And the fifth was this. God, how I love good food!

Thanks for reading all this. I guess I'm kinda long-winded. I just don't want to leave out any details!

xoxo

  4. Oh, wow, this meal looks amazing! My gosh. You had me laughing out loud at your anniversary catastrophes. Sounds a lot like my husband and me! Our wedding day was 110 (reception outside), and I also got burnt to a crisp on our honeymoon and walked (more like shuffled) all over the place like a red lobster.
