Question of the month::: What is your favorite back-to-school memory?
The blog title "just enough foolishness" is taken from a Franciscan Benediction. Here's a snippet: "may God bless you with just enough foolishness to believe that you can make a difference in the world." Isn't that wonderful? We think so. That's what we're trying to live by (my husband and I...and our cat...and our dog). Come visit!
I was in the airport, leaving for a semester abroad in East Africa. Packing for 4 months is a challenge to say the least, and I assumed my bag would be at it's max weight. Sure enough, it was over and I need to take some things out. As soon as I unzipped the first pocket, I saw things my mom had snuck in- including a jumbo size bag of M&M's, more than enough weight to push the bag over the limit. It was a moment of embarrassment, mixed with utter thanksgiving. Even as a 20-something kid heading overseas, my mom was still sending me back to school with surprises hidden in my "backpack" so I'd know she was thinking of me.
We think personal style is just another form of self-expression...and we make shoes for creative girls who can put together a look with effortless originality. Blowfish takes a break from the ordinary and a cue from the past. There's something unexpected in every shoe we create, just as there's something unexpected about every girl who wears them.
For Shauna Salazar, an Art Director from Southern California, the inspiration for The Friend Collective was simple. It was every phone call, e-mail, and dinner conversation she'd shared with her circle of friends. Why not start a community blog enriched by that diverse circle--women with different backgrounds, talents, stories, and interests? Thus was born The Friend Collective.
Starting 6th grade was a huge deal and I couldn't be the only girl without the ESPRIT tote. My mom didn't buy me the designer stuff. But she understood that this year was different, and no ordinary backpack would do. I chose the brightest (and looking back, ugliest) one on the wall: RED-ORANGE. I had second thoughts about my color choice up until the first day of school. Sure enough, all the girls had the same light pink or light blue bags and for a few weeks I was a bit of a 12-year-old fashionista.

A Pair of Pears
Hello there! We are Jake and Jamie Bartlett and that little cutie is Pixel our dalmatian puppy. We run a blog and design company called A Pair of Pears. Our blog is a place for us to share our adventures, new work and all things design. We specialize in graphic design, typography and letterpress.
Our last semester of college together was probably the best ever. That's when we both got into the first printmaking class offered at our school. We each got to explore all different kinds of printing methods, and is where we fell in love with the process. Almost all of the artwork that came out of that class is framed and hanging above our living room couch.

Question: What is your favorite back to school memory?
Answer: A photo of me next to my little brother (same height at the time) who was entering kindergarten and me with my Lisa Frank backpack and matching plastic watch that I brought to school on my first day of second grade. My brother is now 6'3'' and I a petite 5'1'' - nothing changed much from that day in second grade.. I kinda wish I still had that backpack too. :)

Hi everyone! I'm Natasha, and I blog over at Paper Crowns. I'm a Canadian, married to an American, who I met while living in South Korea. I currently live in Charlottesville, Virginia, where I'm trying to pursue my dream of running my own little graphic design business full-time. I blog about the things I love most: design (in all its forms!), travel, music, spontaneous day-to-day adventures and my life as a newlywed. Meeting new people is, hands-down, my favorite part of blogging, so I'd love if you stopped by and said hello!
favorite back-to-school memory: I have so many great back-to-school memories. It was always something that I looked forward to, every single year. A memory that sticks out as always being a thrill was picking the perfect "first day of school" outfit each year. I always somehow managed to convince my mom to take me on a bit of a back-to-school shopping excursion to get a few new things, and getting to wear a new outfit for the big first day was always a big deal! Fall clothing is my favorite, so the time of year probably had a lot to do with the excitement!
